We are learning about strong and stable structures in science. One of our 'challenges' was to create the tallest tower that can hold a load (book). We learned that triangles are strong shapes and triangulation is used to brace square and rectangular shapes. I think we are ready for the weight test!
In Math, we are learning how to extend and create number patterns. We are learning to compare two and three digit numbers. Today we practiced estimation and investigated how big is 100! We estimated how many pumpkin seeds were in the jar. Then we counted the actual amount. We decided to group the seeds into piles of 10. We found out that 10 10's equal 100... that was the easiest way to count- we like friendly numbers. We also found out that 100 seeds is not very much! Our thoughtful guesses were not very close to the actual amount. We found more items in the room to estimate and count. There are many things to consider when estimating amounts.
